Actress/Writer/Producer Trish Loyd took time out from her master plan for world domination and diaper changing to chat about The Collectibles.
Q: How did you get involved in The Collectibles?
I’m married to one of the Directors/Producers (Dan Heinrich), and when he’d bounce ideas off of me for the show, I’d bounce some back and I just kinda naturally wiggled my way in. At first it was for story and show development, and then he floated the idea of me playing Receiver.
Q: Who is your character? What is she like?
My character is Receiver, Psychic Receptionist. She is frustrated at not being given a chance in field, even though she would be immensely helpful, and is also fed up with all the weird, petty, sick stuff she hears in everyone’s heads all the time. So she’s a little on edge, frustrated, with a sharp sense of humor. Though she does have a soft spot for a couple of her teammates, but I won’t reveal too much. You gotta watch the show.
Q: How much of your own personality went into the character, if any? What is your process for creating the character?
Receiver was a little like a blank slate when I read her. There were some definite quirks, but I started to talk to Dan (Heinrich) about some ideas I had and he let me play with them. I thought a lot about how someone with this kind of power would function in the real world so that I could bring a realism about the character that would ground her, make her relatable even with an extraordinary ability and surroundings. And then I just played with it, tried different things on the set and such. I think the character will develop more as the first season goes on, and I’m excited to see that happen.
Q: What was your experience of the actual shoot? Any good stories from the set?
It was a family atmosphere, right from the start. A lot of the cast had worked together in some capacity before, and so coming together was kinda natural. Joe Downing (Death-Wish) liked to fling me some dirty jokes since his character is a bit of a perv towards mine, and I had a lot of fun giving him some crap in return both in front of and behind the camera.
Q: What would you like to see happen in future episodes? To the series as a whole?
I’m really excited to see where Dan, Todd and Landon will take each character, the arc’s and storylines they’re thinking of. I would love to see Receiver’s dry, behind your back sense of humor have some freedom to play, as well as see the chemistry between all of us develop more. I think The Quick (Dan Humphrey) and Receiver should totally play with Death-Wish’s paranoia and I would love to see where that would go.
